Ethnically a very diverse group. They are drawn from Qizilbash, Kashmiri, Kabuli, central Asian, and Pashtun lines. I have Pishori friends who are Uzbek and till this day speak اوزبیکچه but also Hindko and Pashto. It was a melting pot at the turn of the 20th century.
Wow. Thanks for the information. For us Peshoris we were always confused where the ancestors are from they say kutab shahi awan but every peshori from asya gate is kutab shahi awan.
Apart from the Syeds, Awans are the only tribe that are found in all five districts of Peshawar valley. Hindko spoken by only the Awans of Peshawar city. The ones in other districts are Pashto speaking. They outnumbered Yousafzais in the 1891 Census of Peshawar district.
And like Syeds they trace their lineage to Hazrat Ali. They claim to be descendants of Hussain’s half-brother Abbas. The Syeds in Peshawar arrived via Central Asia though
