Hoping that things will just, sort of, work out if you leave them alone - that we can just take a deadly pandemic on the chin, that food will find their way to shelves and homes somehow, that fuel supplies will sort themselves out - isn’t really what you could call “government”.
Ever feel like the Government are sat in meetings NOT trying to figure out how best to sort things but ARE trying to figure out how they can personally profit from things?
Exactly this. All issues, including the Covid pandemic are seen as a business opportunity by this government.
It’s like he thought that the ‘markets’ will sort themselves and that Government has no role…
The purpose of a government is to smooth out the difficulties for the citizen, not to organize them.
It’s a valid initial strategy for a funny new rattle on the car but, really, not for pandemics or chronic labour shortages.
Market forces can sort out labour shortages, but not pandemics.
I think “the army” being the proposed solution to every question is mildly disconcerting.
I'd love to know how they think that could work. The army is smaller than the number of hgv drivers we are short of, even of they all had a license.
UK businesses have clearly got themselves addicted to cheap labour and not having to bother training or investing in staff, and cannot wean themselves off it.
